Venting Board > BreastĀ Feeding
I have always believed that you should just do whatever YOU feel most comfortable doing. You CAN supplement and still make enough milk. All you have to do is continue to stimulate your milk supply by EITHER breast feeding and/or pumping. Pumping is basically the same as breast feeding, in terms of stimulating milk production. So it really just depends on how many breast milk feedings you want your baby to have.
That being said, I do think that there are some women who naturally produce more milk than others, but there is nothing that you can do to change the maximum amount that your body will produce. Keep yourself hydrated, pump/breast feed, and then if you feel you are overwhelmed, then I think supplementing with formula is a great option.
My son's first pediatrician put it best when he told me that you first have to put your emergency mask on, and THEN your baby's. If you are sane & safe & healthy, then your baby will follow. But if you are stressed and overwhelmed, then that is also going to affect your baby adversely. Be happy, enjoy your baby, and do not stress about what others' opinions may be. You are your baby's mother, and to each their own path.
I have to agree with F! Breast feed ing should never make you feel over whelmed or like it's "consuming" your life. It is a bonding time time that should be enjoyed by you and your baby. There's nothing wrong with supplementing with formula...everyones milk production is different.

Too many opinions! Breastfeeding is great, do it for a year....But don't do it for over a year or your little one won't quit...Nurse AT LEAST every 2-3 hours or you'll lose your milk supply....Stretch out nursing to 3-4 hours to get the babies on a schedule (but then you lose your supply)...Your body NATURALLY makes enough milk to feed your baby...Your baby is hungry because you are not making enough milk -- you need to supplement....If you supplement, you will make less milk. Aiyaiya! Don't know what to do! Contradictions EVERYWHERE.
